This I Believe Reflection
I chose to post this audio recording mostly because of the content and my personal connection to the subject. I found it much easier to record my voice on a topic that has been generally private for a long time. I found this assignment as somewhat of a confessional, allowing my inner thoughts and private actions to now be publicized in a way that I felt explained how meditation has helped me throughout the years—emotionally, physically, immunologically, and neurologically. Since I was so intrigued by the subject matter and medium in which it was presented, it allowed me to fully commit myself personally and rhetorically.
I found it very easy to voice how I felt during different parts of the excerpt. I was able to raise and lower certain inflection points to help get an idea across in a rhetorical manner. I felt as if I could speak from my heart on the subject, which in turn allowed my dialogue to flow with ease. I attempted to utilize both pathos and ethos when constructing and delivering my personal message. I wanted to the audience to feel like I was a credible source on the matter with my keen interest and extensive years of research on the neurology behind meditation—considering that I am a psychology/neuroscience major. What made this piece of rhetoric so strong was the appeal to pathos, in which the audience could feel and connect to the emotional sensibilities that I was trying to convey. In all, this was one of my favorite projects due to the unorthodox delivery of the assignment as well as the subject matter that I was able to preach about.
