       Paradigm Shift Essay Reflection

I believe this essay is an exemplary piece of work of my highest research, analytical, and writing skills. I chose to post this essay from the fall semester because it demonstrated how I was able to deeply research such an unorthodox topic and then create a traceable thought process that outlines the transformative quality of the English language. I highly enjoyed researching this topic as I gained a good understanding as to how malleable linguistics are, and how easily humans manipulate language depending on their social, geographical, or educational backgrounds.

One challenge that I came across while starting to write this essay was how I was going to make it interesting for the reader to digest. I knew that the choice of topic was somewhat bland and not easily intriguing for those not interested in linguistics or US history, therefore I had to rhetorically manipulate my writing to make it appealing for the reader. I often tried to incorporate alliterations, metaphors, analogies, and fluid syntax to make the essay as most attractive to the audience as possible. I thought my diction and extensive research were the greatest strengths of my essay. I researched a broad variety sources including the English dictionary, texts from esteemed writers and poets from the 1700s to the 1800s, a children’s book, and various articles from linguists on the subject. I believe this essay represents some of my best work for its content, intricate outside research, and most importantly, my analytical interpretation of the subject.
